RE: If you are over 65 where do you see yourself in ten years?

I have been thinking alot about this lately. I am 68 and am very careful driving my RV. I am always thinking that I am going to loose my driving skills and I will not endanger others. I will quit when I feel I am starting to get unsafe. I am aware that some over the road truckers are old also and should be done driving. I think I have about 5 years left. But, after that, we can go on short trips but I know that I can get in trouble with shorts trips also. I have also thought about getting a class B and getting much shorter. I am 35 feet now. I haven't had a ticket in 33 years but have deserved thousands. Never had a wreck or even a fender bender during that time also. I have run into many guys that are in their 80s and are still RVing but I don't think I will be one of them.

RE: '08 CRV

I have a 2007CRV as my toad and just returned from a 6000 mile trip without a dead battery. I never have pulled any fuses and have never had a dead battery. If I had been towing for 8 hours or more, I'll start the CRV and let the engine idle for about 10 minutes during a lunch break. I think you have something wrong with your towing lights like a diode in wrong. Do you have any other problems with the CRV?

Turn signal lights for my rear view mirrors

Since no one can see me if I am changing lanes because the front turn signal can only be seen from the front and not from anyone in my blind spot, I was thinking of mounting a turn signal on the mirror. I have seen these on some RVs. I know I can wire the lights up OK but I was wondering if I can drill into the plastic (Velvac) mirror housing or will I just split it? Have any of you pigie backed a light on your rear view mirror and what problems did you have?

RE: Koni FSD Shocks

I installed front FSDs on my 35 ft. Dolphin. I hated those things. It made my front axle hop just running over a cigarette butt. My front TV even virarated loose. I thought the cabinets were going to come apart. I since then traded the RV off and there is Bilsteens on this one. I know I am alone with my opinion but this is one guy's experience. I wonder if I had some mis marked shocks since I am alone with this bad experience.

Jensen sound system

I have a problem with my Jensen VR 185 audio system. The switch does not work that switches the disks up but it does work when you want to switch it down. (Same rocker switch does the switching). I cannot find any body in this area that will work on a Jensen. I am in the LA area. Does any one know of a repair service that will fix my audio system?

RE: Strange noise at some time----8.1 Workhorse

Yes, it has on the regulator Allison filter. I saw the difference between the NAPA filter and the Allison filter. By the way, I priced an Allison filter from a Chev dealer and it was 39 bucks. 8 bucks directly from an Allison dealer. The NAPA price was 18 bucks.

Strange noise at some time----8.1 Workhorse

I need some help. I have a strange noise that sounds like paper in the fan blades. It always seems to start at low RPM and goes away about 1800 RPMs. It is a dull noise with no sharp sounds that can be traced. The sound goes away as fast as it starts. I have ruled out the AC compressor/clutch but not the blower motor. I have closely examined all the rubber strips that surround the radiator and shroud. I have found no reason for the noise. There is no noise when the engine is reved and the trans is in neutral. It does not seem to have any connection with the shifting. (I did just change the trans filter.) (I did not notice the noise starting when the filter was changed.) I have even thought about the idler bearing but then why would the noise go away? The noise does not change if the engine is cold or hot. Did any of you have this noise and find a fix. I think it must be something simple because nothing is abnormal with the operation of the RV. This is an 08 Dolphin.

RE: Konis are on

Thanks for the reply Mike. I did get an alignment when it was new and I had it loaded but not since. I do not get abnormal tire wear. I just get outside edge wear like low inflation. That is why I kept the front tires inflated to 100psi.

RE: Konis are on

I installed the Koni FSDs. I run 100 in the front tires and 95 in the back duals. I have never weighed my RV. I seem to get outside rib wear if I run any less air in the fronts. The rib wear seems to be even on the inside and outside of the tires. I know I am in the minority about the shocks.

RE: Konis are on

I installed them on my front end a year ago. Can't tell any difference from the Monroes that I took off except they are so stiff that it feels like they are shaking my inside cabinets apart and I am getting more rattles. I cannot see why everyone likes these shocks. Of course I don't get any bouncing but I didn't get any bouncing with the Monroes either.

RE: Need help with PowerGear gearmotor Slide out

I had the same trouble last year. I could not find any parts from any one who would sell them to me. I made several calls. I ended up getting the whole motor/gearbox assembly from a dealer. It was under extended warranty so I still had to pay $200 deductible. I could have fixed it with 2 small gears but I could not buy them. Good luck and let us know how you fixed it. BTW, I kept my old unit and took it apart and that is how I knew it was only two small gears that stripped. I think I stripped the gears when I was on too steep of slope and tried to push the slide out when it was going up hill a bit.

RE: CampClub USA

I had Camp Club for a year and trying to use it was difficult at best. I remember going 12 miles on gravel roads out of my way to use the membership. The RV and toad were so dirty after leaving, I spent almost a 100 bucks getting everything cleaned up. I now use Passport America as hershey suggested. I think the campgrounds are more carefully selected. I have had good luck with Passport America. When I use PA, I am usually just staying overnight as we are seniors and do not need all the amenities like swimming pool, etc. Be sure to call ahead to be sure the CG has space for you. All of these 50% off CG have restrictions but you can work around them. I have had better luck with Passport America. I have belonged to each of them just a year so I still have much to learn but I am tired of paying $30 - $48 just for a place to park for a night or two.

RE: Honda CRV tail lights

I have an 07 CRV and I installed separate bulbs. I found plenty of room and I used 2057 bulbs. I started with 1157 bulbs but thought they were too dim. I have been in automotive all my life and I do not want to use diodes because I will not hook into the CRVs original wiring. Strange things may happen and anything strange is so hard to diagnose. In my humble opinion, do not hook in the vehicles wiring. Wire the bulbs separately and you will not be sorry.

RE: Hard to reconnect Remco driveshaft disconnect

You don't say how you are trying to reconnect but there are several ways and this is the way I did it on my Ranger after experiencing troubles like you describe. I always reconnected when the vehicle was on the level. Then, instead of starting the engine and grinding it in, I just put one foot out the door (trans in park) and push your vehicle backward as you push on the control. Worked good and I learned that techinque on this forum. Another thing I learned was to lub the entire joint with silicone spray and nothing else. Silicone will dry slick and will not attract dirt. Hope this helps you, it sure worked for me.

RE: Saturn Cig lighter NOT enough for Brake Buddy

It only draws 10 amps when the comprressor is running. It draws nothing most of the time. I have driven all day and never had the brake buddy activate. I have never had the battery discharge on my 07 CRV.

RE: Best Compact Compressor - HD Truck Tires?

I have the Sears one also. Works great but if you have to use an extension cord, make sure it is at least as big as the cord on the compressor.
